System Features
Compressor/Airend
All Portable Power under-chassis compressor systems use oil-flooded, Ingersoll Rand manufactured, rotary screw airends. Ingersoll Rand airends are the most reliable, most efficient, and smoothest operating rotary screw airends in the compressor industry.
Cooling Option Portable Power offers two compressor oil-cooling options for the under-chassis compressor products:
- Water-Cooled System (using engine coolant to cool the compressor oil)
- Air-Cooled System (using a 12-volt fan/radiator assembly to cool compressor oil)
Separation System
Our under-chassis compressor systems use a horizontal separator tank with an external, spin-on type separator element. This system provides easy service and maintenance, and simplifies troubleshooting of the separation system if necessary.
Compressor Oil and Filter
Portable Power recommends the use of specially formulated, proprietary compressor oil - IR Pro-TecTM. This compressor oil is designed to provide maximum lubrication and cooling for the compressor system while not being prone to foam during operation. Using this oil in your Ingersoll Rand compressor system not only increases the life of your compressor system, it also extends the warranty of the airend (when serviced at proper intervals using Ingersoll Rand service components).
The oil filter provided for the under-chassis compressor system is a 10-micron filter with built-in bypass. This filter is specially designed to provide superior fluid filtration in construction environments.
Safety Features
High Temperature Shutdown:
All our under-chassis systems are equipped with a high temp shutdown switch located in the compressor discharge air stream. The system is capable of disengaging the hot-shift PTO (installer provided) when the system reaches a factory specified maximum operating temperature (248oF).
No Load Start-up Feature:
Our under-chassis compressor systems utilize a pressure switch to lock out the PTO from engaging before the system has completely blown all the air out of the system after shutdown. This prevents the system from being immediately restarted after a shutdown (either intentional or via another safety system), and it protects the compressor bearings and seals from being subjected to excessive load under start-up.
Neutral Safety and Park Brake Interlock:
Provisions are made for every under-chassis system to be installed such that the system cannot be engaged unless the vehicle park brake is set and the transmission is either in Park or Neutral (depending on the transmission).
Minimum Pressure Device:
All of our under-chassis compressors are equipped with a minimum pressure device to ensure that no less than 80 psi of pressure is maintained in the air system at all times. This feature ensures that the compressor bearings and rotors will always be properly lubricated regardless of the input speed to the compressor. This feature allows the engine speed to be controlled proportionally to the air demand without risking damage to the compressor or other system components.

Warranty
The standard package warranty for the Portable Power under-chassis compressor system is the earlier of one year from in-service date (18 months from date of factory shipment) or 2,000 operational hours.
The standard airend warranty is the earlier of two years or 4,000 operational hours.
Through the use of IR Pro-TecTM compressor oil and Ingersoll Rand service components at the recommended service intervals, the system automatically qualifies for the airend extended warranty of the earlier of five years or 10,000 operational hours.
