Cooling Options
Portable Power offers two compressor oil cooling options for the under-chassis compressor products:
|
12-volt Fan and Cooler Assembly
This system utilizes a standard fan/cooler assembly to air cool the compressor oil. Oil flow is forced through the cooler, which is subjected to air flow from a 12-volt powered fan motor. The system includes a temperature switch, which turns on the fan only after the oil temperature has reached optimal conditions. This cooler assembly mounts on or above the vehicle body.

Patented Water-Cooled System
This unique cooling method incorporates a plate type, oil-to-water, heat exchanger to provide superior cooling when piped in parallel with the vehicle’s engine coolant flow. By taping into an auxiliary engine coolant supply port, coolant flow is directed in a cross-flow pattern to the compressor oil through the heat exchanger. Not only does the system include no mechanical or electrical parts, the system also fits easily within the vehicle’s frame rails, concealing more of the compressor system under the chassis of the vehicle. Another advantage of this cooling method is that it preheats the compressor oil while driving, making onboard air immediately available upon arriving at the jobsite.
This cooling system is applicable for most diesel engines equipped with a heavy-duty cooling system.

Throttle Control
Portable Power offers a truly proportional electronic throttle control system that modulates engine speed based on air tool demand. This system is compatible with most electronic throttle equipped engines (gasoline or diesel), and provides seamless engine speed modulation from no load to any level of air demand instantly. The electronic throttle control can also regulate engine speed for generator or welder operation, maintaining a 60 Hz frequency, no matter what load is placed on the system.

| Dual Pressure
For applications where both air tool operation and high-pressure air delivery is needed from the same service air discharge port, Portable Power offers a dual pressure regulation system. This feature allows the operator to change from low- to high-pressure air delivery by simply turning a selector valve. On units equipped with a proportional electronic throttle control, the control module can be switched to a secondary pressure setting to modulate the engine speed based on the alternate pressure mode.
Coming soon, Portable Power will release a fully electronic dual pressure system. The operator will be able to simply toggle between low- and high-pressure modes by flipping a switch. All other functions will be automated (no manual selector valve and no separate switch for the throttle control). |
