STATESVILLE, N.C. - Doosan Portable Power introduces the newest innovation in its full line of air compressors - the OS HP1000WCU offshore portable air compressor. This ATEX-certified model was designed to excel in Zone 2 hazardous environments, while delivering the power and reliability drill rig operators require for challenging applications in harsh operating conditions.
The compressor is enclosed in a DNV 2.7-1-certified, 20-foot offshore container, with 110 percent bunding and forklift pockets for safe and easy movement. The compressors can be stacked up to two units high via internal hatches or external ladders, increasing platform space and application capabilities.
The OS HP1000WCU is powered by a 300 hp, Cummins QSM-11, Zone 2-compliant, Tier 3 engine, and is capable of operating in temperatures ranging from -10 C to +50 C.
Operational safety is enhanced via the compressor's full range of pneumatic shutdowns and indicators, as well as fire detection and suppression systems. Automatic shutdown and indicators alert against high vibration, low coolant levels, low oil pressure, and high engine exhaust temperature, while a yellow solenoid shutdown with remote connection offers the operator peace of mind when distanced from the compressor.
Safety is further enhanced with a Pyroban® engine kit, which includes:
• An inlet shutdown valve which automatically shuts the engine down in the instance of overspeed
• A 3GP™ inlet flame arrestor
• A water-cooled exhaust gas cooler which limits surface and exhaust temperatures to the specified temperature class
• Water-cooled exhaust flexible which maintains temperature class while insulating engine vibration and movement
• Crankcase / airbox breather flametrap
• Spark arrestor
• Flameproof alternator
• Safety battery
“Reliability and safety are never more important than for those whose “office” is located on an offshore drilling platform,” said Ted Flatt, director of national accounts, Doosan Portable Power. “Only a few companies in the world offer products that meet the rigorous performance and safety demands required of these operations - our Zone 2 compressor provides the power needed to keep maintenance projects moving for offshore operators, and the peace of mind to allow them to focus on the job at hand.”
Machine lifetime and operator safety is enhanced with an intuitive design that allows service point access from three sides of the machine. Maintenance components have been organized in a way that leaves all service points - from fuel and oil to air filters - within easy reach. The compressor can easily be removed from the unit, simplifying engine and airend maintenance.
